About us

The London Nautical School was founded in 1915, as a consequence of the official report into the loss of the “Titanic”. In 1990, it became one of the country’s first 11-18 comprehensive secondary schools for boys to be awarded grant maintained status.

In September 1999, we became a Foundation School within the London Borough of Lambeth. The school is situated in Stamford Street on the south bank of the River Thames, in between Blackfriars Bridge and Waterloo Bridge.

General Admissions criteria are shown in the prospectus.

In addition applicants should be aware of the following.

Class Sizes

Class sizes will be a maximum of fifteen students (arts subjects including mathematics and ICT) and twelve for sciences (biology physics and chemistry). Heads of department may agree to admit above this number. In the case of oversubscription, entry will be determined by taking the mean of GCSE scores. For the purposes of calculating mean GCSE scores, the following rules will apply:

  • short courses will not be considered
  • mother tongue foreign languages will not be considered
  • the BTEC First Diploma will count as 1 GCSE

Entry Criteria

Students should secure at least a grade C (normally obtained on a higher paper) in the subject they wish to study

For Science subjects

If students have completed the 21st Century Science GCSE, the grade C must be obtained in the Additional Science paper.
