About us

The London Nautical School was founded in 1915, as a consequence of the official report into the loss of the “Titanic”. In 1990, it became one of the country’s first 11-18 comprehensive secondary schools for boys to be awarded grant maintained status.

In September 1999, we became a Foundation School within the London Borough of Lambeth. The school is situated in Stamford Street on the south bank of the River Thames, in between Blackfriars Bridge and Waterloo Bridge.

The Art Dept has two full-time teachers – Mrs.Wilson Scott (Head of Art) and Ms.Lucking.  There are two spacious and well equipped rooms where pupils are able to participate in drawing, painting, printing, 3d, ICT and textile projects.  Pupils are also able to take part in various gallery trips due to the schools excellent location.  We have taken part in the Thames Festival, in projects with The Hayward, The October Gallery, Gasworks, The Courtauld, The Comic Museum, The British Museum, Tate Modern and Tate Britain and many more.  We also receive a yearly prize from The Worshipful Co. of Painter Stainers.  All boys take Art in Yrs 7, 8 and 9 and can then opt to take Art in Yrs 10 and 11 for GCSE.  We follow the Edexcel Art and Design course for GCSE and GCE where pupils are further encouraged to explore Art and Design to their full potential.
