About us

The London Nautical School was founded in 1915, as a consequence of the official report into the loss of the “Titanic”. In 1990, it became one of the country’s first 11-18 comprehensive secondary schools for boys to be awarded grant maintained status.

In September 1999, we became a Foundation School within the London Borough of Lambeth. The school is situated in Stamford Street on the south bank of the River Thames, in between Blackfriars Bridge and Waterloo Bridge.

Welcome To ICT Department

The department consists of four main teaching rooms, each containing 30 networked PCs, laser printing facilities, data projection and a teaching station for monitoring and class control.  All students and staff can access their area from anywhere in the school. The ICT department’s aims are to prepare students for their future education and careers by developing them into competent ICT users. We aim to develop their curiosity and understanding of technologies available and provide them with the confidence to apply new skills creatively.

Staffing - Currently the department has four specialist teachers

Mr N Yuksel (Head of Faculty for ICT and Business)

Mr D Benyam (KS4 Co-ordinator)

Mr A Ozkaya (KS3 Co-ordinator and Maths Teacher)

Mr Q Hussain (ICT Teacher)

Curriculum content

KS3
In the first three years at the school pupils will cover all aspects of the Key stage 3 programme of study. The Scheme of Work is designed to cater for pupils working at levels 3-7. It is also designed to be challenging and to raise expectations. In all years pupils are encouraged to use the I.C.T. skills gained across the curriculum.

KS4
The ICT department runs a GCSE course in Information and Communications Technology, which pupils can choose as one of their options at Key Stage 4. Pupils investigate and study I.C.T. at GCSE level in a variety of contexts. In these contexts, candidates are given opportunities to acquire competence, capability and critical skills. The main focus of the course is on the pupils using ICT in context to solve real life based problems that face most organisations. Students are also offered the DiDA course currently being studied by two sets of year 11 groups and offered to year 10 students who have not chosen ICT as an option. This course will assess how well students can use software on the computer, to solve problems.  It is designed to equip students with the skills that they will need in the 21st century world of work. It allows students to produce high quality digital content, using a range of software packages including Dreamweaver (web design), Fireworks (graphics) and Flash (animation) as well as the usual ‘Office’ programs.

KS5
An AQA AS and A2 in Information and Communications Technology is currently offered to students.
