Careers Information Advice and Guidance
The London Nautical School Careers Department helps pupils prepare for the choices, changes and transitions affecting young peoples’ future education, training and work as adult members of society. Careers education lessons are delivered by the PSHE department for pupils in Years 7-11. These are supported by individual interviews with our Careers Advisor, Moji Ryder.
The Careers department promotes life long learning for all pupils and is committed to the Aim Higher Programme of widening participation at university. As a result we have developed excellent relationships with Kings College, University College London, Goldsmiths, London South Bank University and Cass Business School. The Aim Higher Programme supports numerous events and activities that focus on encouraging students to study at university.
Pupils are encouraged to attend the lunchtime Careers Club which takes place every Tuesday in the school library. Pupils are able to obtain advice, information and guidance about the wide variety of opportunities available to them. Pupils are also provided with an introductory session for the interactive careers website: www.mychoicelondon.co.uk
A recent exciting initiative for the Careers Department has been the Vocational programme. For one or two days a week some pupils go off site to study Carpentry, Construction or Multimedia at a local college. This programme has widened the learning opportunity for pupils in Years10 and 11.
The department has also solid links with The Royal Navy, The Army, Shell International, The RAF and Merrill Lynch. These organisations regularly come to the school to do careers presentations and workshops. In addition we run a Careers Fair that takes place every March. Last year our event was attended by over 30 exhibitors.
