Our aims are
that students :
· acquire knowledge of Christianity and of the other principal
religions represented in Great Britain which include, Buddhism, Hinduism,
Islam, Judaism and Sikhism
· develop an understanding of the influence of beliefs, values
and traditions on individual, communities, societies and cultures
· practice the ability to make reasoned judgements about
religious and moral issues
· enhance their own spiritual, moral, cultural and social
development
· respect different beliefs about the meaning and purpose of
life
At Key stage 3 R.E. covers the basic concepts, historical roots and
phenomena of various religions, which involves
Looking at why symbols are important
Investigating different religious visions of life
Considering the meaning of Jesus’ Resurrection & Incarnation
Investigating how & why people worship
Study of Rites of passage
At Key stage 4 R.E. investigates further the philosophical and e thical
dilemmas presented by religious belief, which involves
Thinking about the nature & purpose of suffering
Considering the existence of God
Looking at where the universe came from
Investigating belief in life after death
Looking at the nature of religious experience

- Prejudice & discrimination
- War & peace
- Environment
- Animal rights
Teaching and Learning Styles
A variety of teaching and learning styles are employed,
involving group work, students’ research, the use of role play, visits, use
of artefacts (religious objects) and guest speakers are encouraged to visit
to discuss their faith.
Assessments of pupil progress are made each term. These may be
assignments make a model of a religious building; design a tourist brochure,
invent a rite of passage, present a drama or advertising campaign
Differentiation of tasks is used to enable students of different
abilities to develop fully, both their knowledge and understanding.

There are two main RE specialists, Mrs Neylan-Francis Head of
