Dear Parents It is becoming more and more the norm for pupils to continue their education beyond the age of sixteen. This prospectus provides detailed information about the post 16 courses that we intend to offer from September 2008, and is designed to be of help to parents and all those students who may be considering joining our sixth form. When reading this prospectus, it may be helpful to keep in mind the following. 1. Traditional two year ‘A’ Level courses have been replaced by AS courses which are normally examined at the end of Year 12 and A2 courses which are examined at the end of Year 13. The BTEC National Diploma is an alternative pathway to A Levels. Assessment is continuous and based on coursework. 2. The Sixth Form differs in many ways from that of the other year groups in the school. It is a stage in the education of students during which they are expected to accept and demonstrate greater responsibility. 3 A personal tutor is responsible for monitoring the individual progress of each student, and all students will receive guidance about careers and going onto higher education. 4 Courses can be offered only subject to demand. We trust that you will find this prospectus helpful and that you will be interested in what we have to offer at the London Nautical School. Yours sincerely
