About us

The London Nautical School was founded in 1915, as a consequence of the official report into the loss of the “Titanic”. In 1990, it became one of the country’s first 11-18 comprehensive secondary schools for boys to be awarded grant maintained status.

In September 1999, we became a Foundation School within the London Borough of Lambeth. The school is situated in Stamford Street on the south bank of the River Thames, in between Blackfriars Bridge and Waterloo Bridge.

Finance

A report to follow shortly.

Christmas Fair.

So far the Christmas Fair has not been added to the schools calendar.

Mr Holder Head of Business studies explained that he would be unable to support a Christmas event this year, due to other projects. He would however give as much advice and support to any member of staff who would be willing to take over the responsibility and champion the event.

The idea of using lunchtime/after school clubs was raised, or the possibility of the project being part of enrichment lessons. As this would be a school event boys would need to be motivated and Mr Holder would be willing to promote at school assemblies.

The year groups who have usually been involved are 7/8/9.

Examples forwarded were:

Ms Adams in DT to use as a design project.

Miss Lucking – had previously been involved in Christmas card design and production.

Debbie (PTA) has many business contacts who could be partners in the project to organise the event.

We need to print new Christmas Draw tickets, tickets will be 50p each or £5 for a book. The tickets will say December Draw, enabling us to sell unsold tickets in future years.

  • Janice will contact Head and Deputy Head asking them to advertise for staff support.
  • Sue will stock take and let us know next meeting the number of puddings and other items we need to sell.
  • Sue will sort out Charity number for raffle tickets.

 Sports day.

This year’s event went well – we sold even more than previous year. Thank You to all PTA members who supported.

Regatta

Was poorly attended this year – there needs to be some radical thinking on how we promote the event and encourage greater numbers to attend. For future events inclusion of a good map, as many parents found the venue difficult to find.

Uniform

All the new year 7 children had uniform for the first day, although to date there are still some bits and pieces missing. We now need to establish if the school will need support each year – or now that the new uniform system is in place they will take over uniform stock.

Thanks to all those PTA members who spent long days bagging up uniform.

To date the PTA have been responsible for the distribution of PE kit, we are not sure if this will continue – need to have a discussion with Mr Ainsworth.

  • Janice to invite Mr Ainsworth to next meeting.

Year 7

There was a run down of the school year for those parents joining us with year 7 children, and how they would be informed of events. There is usually an informal evening in November with the chance to meet your child’s tutor. The evening usually finishes with refreshments. The hope is to also run a meeting earlier to allay any concerns parents may have and promote the great things the school is doing.

AOB

Angela (PTA) has received her CRB. Any parent who wishes to become more involved will need to complete the CRB paperwork.

We have not received any requests/bids for monetary support for a while. The slips are in the staff room; need to ask for staff to be reminded.

Survival guide – a great support, but could we add a diagram on how to attach swatches.

Parents would like information on Parade Days, what can be left in lockers – some basic information, so they can reassure their child and support them with organising uniform and school books.  Janice to email Deputy Head.
