About us

The London Nautical School was founded in 1915, as a consequence of the official report into the loss of the “Titanic”. In 1990, it became one of the country’s first 11-18 comprehensive secondary schools for boys to be awarded grant maintained status.

In September 1999, we became a Foundation School within the London Borough of Lambeth. The school is situated in Stamford Street on the south bank of the River Thames, in between Blackfriars Bridge and Waterloo Bridge.

Message to Parents regarding Mobile Phones

It is clear that many parents would like their sons to carry mobile phones so they can be in contact before and after school.  Because many of our students travel considerable distances and may have fairly complicated journeys, the school recognises that many parents feel reassured that they are able to keep in touch in this manner.

However, the problems associated with mobile phones within school have, if anything, become more difficult as the technology advances.  In lessons they cause disruption and are often lost, or stolen, or the subject of disputes.  We have therefore decided that the following rules will apply from Monday 20th June 2011 and I would like you to be fully aware of these.

  1. Boys will be permitted to carry mobile phones to and from school but they must be kept in their bags or their lockers for the entire school day.
  2. No mobile phones, (or headphones), are permitted to be used at any time during the school day.  This includes breaktimes and lunchtimes.
  3. If a mobile phone, (or headphones), is seen by a member of staff, either in or out of lessons, it will be confiscated and placed in the school office safe.  It will not be returned until the end of the day from the whole school detention area.
  4. Deliberate use of a mobile phone or failure to hand over a phone in a lesson will incur more serious sanctions, including detentions.
  5. Mobile phones may only be taken out of bags once boys have left the school premises.
  6. If boys need to contact parents during the school day then they must ask in the school office and if the reason is a valid one, (which would only be in an emergency), the office will make the phone call.  They must not in any circumstances use their own phones.
  7. Pupils remain responsible for their own property and bear the responsibility should their phone go missing.

I hope the above clarifies school policy on this issue and thank you in advance for your support.
