I`d like to hear from any contemporary classmates who may remember me.
Surnames come to mind - Devlin, Wilson, Shapiro, Parsons.
If you still have it, there was a `Star Swimmer ` shield in the main
hall. I was the star swimmer for 1950 or 51 and still have the real
silver medal. I went on to represent the LNS at the Southern Schoolboys
Championships. We did very well thanks to Harry Popham`s coaching and the
endless miles of in-water training. In fact, when I left, in 1952, to
join the first contingent of Metropolitan Police Cadets at Hendon College
and on to two years on the Thames River Police at Wapping and Waterloo, I
played water polo for the Met and even got an Olympic trial and an
invitation to a USA college to train. Then did National Service in the
Royal Navy (Coastal Minesweepers) Played w`polo for Navy..............and
now? I`m a Stained Glass artist and maker. Address is

I still keep in touch with some of my school comrades, (Mr Hore may even
remember the 'three amigos' (Danny Thomas, James Carpenter and I) he had to

This was the most bizarre school I have ever known, with some of the
strangest characters (which most definitely includes
teachers, Captain Forder or Mr Mullard anyone).... and I never regretted a

I attended the
London
Nautical
School from 1961 to
1667. In October 1967 I joined the British India Steam Navigation company
as a Deck Cadet and stayed with the company even after the takeover by P & O
until August 1976 when I resigned with a First Mates Ticket and the rank of
Second Mate. I have lived in
Australia ever since.
I was involved with shipping and stevedoring until 1991 and now work in
Local Government in the field of Human Resources. My brother
Michael Rudd was also at the
school from 1963 or 1964. Last week I caught up with another old boy from
my year - John Sheather who now lives in the
USA. I was in the
first year where students were housed in the annex in Union Street Southwark
as we had outgrown the
Stamford Street building.
I will probably be best remembered for playing the piano for assemble at
the annex and for playing Joan of Arc in the School’s 1966 or 67 production
of George Bernard Shaw’s “St Joan”. I remember well attending the National
Seafarers services at St Pauls, Remberance Day Services at Tower Hill and
the big something hundred celebrations of Westminster Abbey Seafarer’s
service where Nelson’s famous signal was flown outside of the Abbey.

I remember
Captain Madge and Lieutenant-Commander Ogden. I would particularly

I was hit
by a car in July 1978, brain-injured and partially paralyzed, now
(somewhat) recovered and leading an outwardly normal existence. I was
apparently visited in hospital by Philip Lee and Paul Schofield, although
I have no recollection of this event and only know what they told me of
the visit.

particularly remember Mr Cox (my 1st year form master and RE?), Victor
Delborgo, French ("Yes, I know, my initials are VD!" and "If any of you
pass French 'O' Level, I'll get drunk for a week.") and Anne Hobbs,
English.
