David Miliband MP, Minister for School Standards paid a flying visit to The London Nautical School on Thursday, 23^rd October 2003 as part of National Chess Week where he enthusiastically joined the boys during their Chess Club, playing several pupils.

Chess is the ultimate challenge, the definitive game of strategy and one of the oldest games in existence. It has a proven ability to improve the fitness of the mind and has an estimated 500 million players world wide.

It is currently enjoying a huge revival with celebrities such as Madonna, Moby, Arnie Schwarzenegger and Lennox Lewis all keen chess players.
