London Nautical School Proposed arrangements for Admissions to Sixth Form 2008 There will be a maximum of 70 places in Year 12 of the Sixth Form at the London Nautical School for September 2008 and the same number for September 2009. The maximum number of students per class will be 20 (15 for Sciences, ICT and BTEC National Diploma).
Each student follows either the BTEC National Diploma or AS Levels. Students following AS Levels will normally study four subjects in Year 12. In exceptional circumstances students may be permitted to begin three subjects. Applications are invited from November 7th 2007. Applicants will be invited to a meeting to discuss courses. On the basis of the meeting applicants will be given either An outright offer, subject to meeting minimum entry conditions or A conditional offer. Conditional offers of places on courses will be made on the basis of mock examination results, teacher predictions of likely GCSE performance and references. or A provisional offer. In this case, applicants will be placed on a waiting list Offers will be confirmed following the publication of the GCSE results in August. Applications can be made up to the 15th September 2008. Students must be born between 1 September 1991 and 31 August 1992 to be eligible for a place in the London Nautical School Sixth Form in 2008-2009.
Oversubscription In the event of there being more applicants achieving the entry qualifications than the number of places available for a particular subject, then the following criteria will apply after the initial admission of pupils: (a) Mean GCSE points score including Maths, English and Science. Short course scores and vocational course scores will not be considered. Applicants with the highest mean GCSE score will be given priority. (b) Date of receipt of application. Earlier applications will be given priority. (c) Admission of children in public care (looked after children). (d) Specific medical needs, social needs and special needs where the application is supported by written specific professional advice as to why admission to the School is necessary. (e) Siblings of students currently attending the School (f) Nearest walking distance to the School-students who live the nearest distance from the School.
Appeals Parents will have the right of appeal to an independent Appeal Panel if they are dissatisfied with an admission decision of the School. (Full details of the appeal procedure can be found in the London Nautical School’s main prospectus). |
